The Architecture of Intimacy
At Sardar Khan Design Studio, we view the bathroom not as a utility, but as a sanctuary of private ritual. In this project, we explored the concept of material duality through two distinct expressions of luxury. The first environment is an exercise in monochromatic warmth, utilizing soft beige tones and fluted textures to create a sense of cocoon-like tranquility. The second, a bolder articulation, employs high-contrast marble and brass to establish a commanding, sophisticated presence.
Spatial Hierarchy and Vertical Rhythm
The spatial hierarchy in both designs is anchored by the vanity, positioned as the primary focal point. We introduced a deliberate ‘vertical rhythm’ through the application of fluted wall panels. These repetitive linear elements serve to draw the eye upward, increasing the perceived volume of the room while adding a tactile dimension that breaks the rigidity of the stone. This rhythmic layering ensures that even within a minimalist framework, there is a profound sense of architectural depth.
Ambient Luminosity
Light is our primary material. Rather than relying on harsh direct sources, we integrated ‘ambient luminosity’ through recessed LED channels and backlit mirrors. This technique softens the reflective surfaces of the marble and brass, creating a diffused glow that enhances the natural veining of the stone. The result is an atmosphere that feels both expansive and deeply private, where light serves to highlight the precision of the craftsmanship.
